You know, I'm as keen as the next man when it comes to camping, but this year proved to be, well, challenging to say the least. I guess the omens were bad from the off when I found myself powering the Nissan Tino through gale force winds and rain towards Norfolk, hoping against hope we'd get far north enough to clear the rain belt that lay across the south of England last week. But no, instead, we travelled to the epicentre itself and put a tent up in its eye.
One morning, 4am actually, the whole campsite awoke to a mega thunder and lightening storm that lasted half an hour, that seemed to hover right over our tent. It just went on and on, the rain smashing against the tent, lightening lighting up the tent and thunder so loud, the missus said it actually drowned out my snoring! At one point, I even shouted to the missus 'let's make a run for it! - leave the kids, it's every man for himself!!' but I couldn't be arsed struggling out of my sleeping bag, so sat there instead, giving some comfort to the wife where I could.
The entire sunshine exposure for the week for could be condensed to about half a day at most, the rest of the time, cloud/rain or sometimes, rain, just rain. Still, bulldog spirit and all that, we managed to fit in, check it.
