Clippesby Hall

It's that time of the year again - we're all off camping in our brand new tent packed in our brand new roof top box but the weather isn't looking good I'm afraid. Today it's tipping it down, same as yesterday so the ground will be damp to say the least. Still, the bulldog spirit and all that. Clippesby Hall is an ace place, lovely and peace full, with a bar and swimming pool and near a load of nice things to do for the kids. The last time I was there was in 2005 just before I started that shite job in Bath - oh, the future was so bright back then I tell ya! I keeps saying to myself, look, without that move you wouldn't be where you are now etc etc so it's all good son, but boy, that time still sends shivers down my spine!
Any-hoo - a week off work, costing me £1700 in lost earnings but who cares? - I need a break after 9 months on the trot working for the nhs, no wait, make that a month off I need! - five to five on friday and I'm feeling good, looking forward to the break when someone comes up to me and says she's the new project manager for the folder project, wait a minute I say, the project I wrote the briefing paper for? yes, she says, The one I recommended getting an IM professional in for 5 months to run for us? yes she says, looking embarrassed...jesus I said, no disrespect love, but you know fuck all about how to run this kind of project and I am too busy to run it for you! - I went to the top and said, look, just because I am here, doesn't mean I am a dumping ground for every IM related job that needs doing, I am and IA with projects of my own, etc. So, we kind of left it there, my so-called manager said let's pick it up when I get back from holiday.
hmmmm....if the economy was looking better, I'd be outya there sharpish - no one takes advantage of MY good nature!
Right off to load the top box up with essential camping gear, table, cooker, blow-up beds, bikes, soft chairs, wind breaks, cooking table, torches....god help me.

The garden - 2008

The boys had kicked to death my bloody lawn - so time, once again, to re-lawn. 28 rolls, £100 - done in 4 hours. Good job.

Berlin 2008

I took my Oz mate to Berlin a couple of weeks ago. I had a rotten cold and felt weird the whole trip. On my first night I actually tripped in the hotel room, not as in tripped over, but as in mind tripped man! - I was all over the place, drugged up on cold remedy and beer and frozen half to death because the cheap nasty hotel, well, not even that really, seemed fit to put a sheet on my bed instead of a duvet. The German bastards.
Berlin was great though, it's come along since the last time I was there, with new shopping centres and the diplomatic area all nearly all complete. We arrived early and set off for a nice lunch and sauna at our favorite place, on the roof tops overlooking berlin. 4 or 5 pints in, we began to relax a little but I was annoyed I couldn't taste any of the food. We visited a strip club, of course, but didn't stay long as the girls wanted £50 per drink off us!! so, we said no way love, drank our warm beer and left.
We took a tour bus on the Saturday and spent the day jumping on and off, visiting all the usual places, the wall, Check point Charlie, the Reichstag - all that stuff - having the odd beer along the way.
Great weekend. see below:

Hungary 2008

Took the family to Lake Balaton, Hungary over Easter - well, it's a place they've always desperately wanted to visit and I just couldn't resist their upturned faces any longer. Imagine, if you will, Frinton-on-Sea out of season, but full of German old folk instead of British old crones and you'll get a picture of the type of residents of Balaton. All desperately trying to re-gain the youth they once had in the hot springs and, yes, radioactive, waters in the area. We didn't ask why the waters were radioactive, by the way, we just dived in and enjoyed the sensation of the hot water boiling away the jewelry on our fingers. The locals didn't speak much English either, but the universal language of BEER and PIZZA spoken loudly and often stood us in good stead.
